School holidays in Morocco 2026-2027: calendar and rules
The Moroccan school calendar for 2026-2027 is set by ministerial decision 047.26 of 3 July 2026. It applies to public preschool, primary, middle and high schools and fixes the start of classes, five breaks of eight days, the Eid days off and the end of the year. Here is how it works and what to plan for.
Back to school 2026: the first days
The school year officially opened on Tuesday 1 September 2026. Schools welcomed pupils on 3, 4 and 5 September, on a day that depends on the level, and classes started for everyone on Monday, 7 September 2026, from preschool to the final year of high school. Non-formal education and second-chance classes started a month later, on Monday 5 October 2026. September is also when schools finish their administrative work and meet families.
Five breaks of eight days
The decision gives five breaks, each running from a Sunday to the following Sunday: two mid-term breaks before the mid-year break at the end of January, then two more in spring. They cut the year into six study periods of 6, 6, 6, 7, 6 and 6 weeks, so pupils never study more than 7 weeks in a row. In all, the breaks add up to 40 days at home.
Each card at the top of the page gives the dates of a break and the day classes start again, and the next break is highlighted with the number of days left. The calendar colours every break day in mustard, so you can see the whole year on one screen.
Eid days off and national holidays
Religious holidays are written in the Hijri calendar: Eid al-Fitr from 29 Ramadan to 2 Shawwal 1448, Eid al-Adha from 9 to 11 Dhu al-Hijja 1448, and one day for 1 Muharram 1449. Their Gregorian dates depend on the moon sighting announced by the Ministry of Habous, so the dates shown here are expected and can move by a day. The Eid al-Adha days off follow the fourth mid-term break directly, which gives pupils ten days in a row at home in mid-May.
National holidays also close schools: 7 of them fall inside the 2026-2027 school year, from Unity Day on 31 October 2026 to Labour Day on 1 May 2027. They are all in the table above with their weekday, and the public holidays calendar covers every holiday of 2026 and 2027.
End of the year, exams and registration
Classes continue until Saturday, 29 May 2027 for the second year of the baccalaureate and until Saturday, 26 June 2027 for primary and middle school, and end-of-year operations close on 10 July 2027. The decision also schedules continuous assessment, class councils and exam sessions; exact exam dates come in separate ministry notes, so ask the school for the local, regional and national exam dates. To work out a bac average, try the grade calculator.
For next year, first-year primary registration is done online on the Massar platform from 1 to 30 April 2027, and re-registration for all levels runs from 1 to 10 July 2027.

Planning trips and childcare
The longest stretches at home are the mid-year break at the end of January and mid-May, when the fourth break and the expected Eid al-Adha days run together. Parents who work can compare these dates with the public holidays to see which days the whole family is free, and in Ramadan the prayer times for your city give the iftar time every evening.
This calendar is the one for public schools. Universities and vocational training centres follow their own calendars, and families with children in a private school should confirm its dates with the school.
