How to write a hair salon invoice in Morocco
Most clients of a salon pay on the spot and leave, so many owners only think about a hair salon invoice when a bride asks for a written quote, a company books a session for its staff, or an accountant asks for the year's papers. This guide is for hairdressers, barbers and beauty institutes in Morocco: what goes on the lines, the VAT rate, deposits for bridal bookings, the auto-entrepreneur case, and a wedding package you can rebuild in the generator above.
Sessions, packages and products
When you pick "Hair and beauty salon", the generator fills three lines. A salon bill is built mostly from these:
- Services per session: cut and blow-dry, colour, facial, hair removal, manicure. The quantity is the number of sessions, which also suits a course of treatments sold in advance (for example 5 facials).
- Packages as a flat fee: the bridal package (hair and make-up, often with a trial), or a "henna night" offer. Write what the package includes in the description, so nobody argues on the day.
- Products sold: shampoo, care oil, cream. Put each on its own line with the brand and quantity, apart from the services, so your stock and your sales match.
Most clients are individuals who pay at the counter. For products sold to them, article 145-III of the General Tax Code (CGI) accepts a till receipt in place of an invoice when it shows the date, the seller, the product, the quantity and the price.
Which VAT rate: 20%
Hairdressing and beauty care are services, taxable under article 89-I-10°-b of the CGI, which covers "generally any service". No reduced rate in article 99-B names them, so a VAT-registered salon charges the normal rate of 20% (article 99-A) on services and on the products it sells.
The 10% rate is for hotels, restaurants, cafés and road transport. A salon inside a hotel still bills its own services at 20%.
Auto-entrepreneur salons: pick "No VAT"
Many small salons and home-based beauticians work under the auto-entrepreneur scheme. If you are not VAT-registered, pick "No VAT" on every line: the invoice then shows a single total with no VAT added. Article 145-XI also places auto-entrepreneurs outside the invoicing rules of article 145, apart from having an email address. A clear invoice is still worth giving to a bride or a company that asks for one: it is your proof of the price agreed.

Bridal bookings and the deposit
Wedding season fills Saturdays months ahead, and salons usually ask for a deposit to hold the date: the preset's note says "Appointment confirmed once the deposit is received". Send the bride a quote first (switch the document to "Quote"), with the wedding date, the time, the place if you travel, and the number of bridesmaids.
For a VAT-registered salon, VAT is due when the money is collected, in full or in part (article 95), so the deposit carries VAT on the amount received. On the day, issue the invoice for the whole service and enter the deposit in the "Deposit" field: the generator shows the balance to pay.
Worked example: a bride and 3 bridesmaids
A bride books the bridal package (hair, make-up and a trial session) at 3,000 MAD, plus hair and make-up for three bridesmaids at 400 MAD a session. She paid 1,000 MAD to confirm the date. The salon is VAT-registered, so every line is at 20%. The total before tax is 4,200.00 MAD, the VAT is 840.00 MAD, and the full price is 5,040.00 MAD. With the deposit of 1,000.00 MAD already paid, the bride pays 4,040.00 MAD on the wedding day.
| Description | Qty | Unit | Unit price excl. VAT | VAT | Total excl. VAT |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bridal package: hair, make-up and trial session | 1 | flat fee | 3,000.00 MAD | 20% | 3,000.00 MAD |
| Bridesmaids: hair and make-up | 3 | session | 400.00 MAD | 20% | 1,200.00 MAD |
| Total excl. VAT | 4,200.00 MAD | ||||
| VAT 20% | 840.00 MAD | ||||
| Total incl. VAT | 5,040.00 MAD | ||||
| Deposit paid | 1,000.00 MAD | ||||
| Balance due | 4,040.00 MAD | ||||
Common mistakes
- Mixing products into a service line: "care, 600 MAD" hides what was sold and what was done.
- Adding 20% VAT when you are an auto-entrepreneur who is not VAT-registered.
- Forgetting the deposit on the final invoice, so the bride is asked for the full price twice.
- Taking a deposit with no written quote: if the date or the package changes, nothing shows what was agreed.

Questions
What VAT rate does a hair salon charge in Morocco?
A VAT-registered salon charges 20%, the normal rate of article 99-A, on its services and on the products it sells.
I am an auto-entrepreneur. Do I add VAT?
Not if you are not VAT-registered: pick "No VAT" on each line and the invoice shows a single total.
Should products appear on separate lines?
Yes. Put each product on its own line with its quantity, apart from the services, so sales and stock match.
Can I send a quote for a bridal package?
Yes. Switch the document to "Quote", set a validity date, and turn it into an invoice on the day, with the deposit deducted.
