How to write a freight invoice in Morocco in 2026
A freight invoice in Morocco changed in 2026. Road transport of goods now carries a VAT rate of 10%, after two years of small cuts, while the handling and storage that often come with a delivery stay at 20%. A carrier's transport invoice therefore often mixes two rates, and getting one of them wrong means either overcharging the client or underpaying the tax. This guide sets out the rates, the lines, the trip details clients expect and a worked example with both rates.
What goes on the lines
Picking "Transport and logistics" in the generator fills three lines, each with its own unit:
- Road freight, per trip: the route ("Nador to ..."), the date and the load. One line per trip, or one line with the number of trips when they are identical.
- Handling, per hour: loading and unloading by your crew or forklift.
- Warehouse storage, per day: goods kept in your depot before or after the trip.
Waiting time, a second driver or a tail-lift can be added as further lines. Price each one as you agreed with the client, and keep each at the rate of the service it describes.
Road freight VAT: 10% from 2026
Article 99-B-1° of the General Tax Code (CGI) puts urban transport and road transport of passengers and goods at the reduced rate, and article 247-XXXXI-G sets the path to it. Transport that is neither road nor urban went the other way under article 247-XXXXI-F:
| Period | Road and urban transport | Other transport |
|---|---|---|
| At 31 Dec 2023 | 14% | 14% |
| 2024 | 13% | 16% |
| 2025 | 12% | 18% |
| From 1 Jan 2026 | 10% | 20% |
So in 2026 a lorry trip is billed at 10%, and a transport service that is not road or urban at 20%. The 10% rate keeps the right of deduction: you still recover the VAT on your purchases under the general rules.
Handling and storage stay at 20%
The reduced rate names transport, not everything a carrier does. Article 89-I-10°-b lists transport and warehousing ("magasinage") as separate taxable services, and only transport appears in article 99-B. Handling, storage and other logistics services therefore take the normal rate of 20% (article 99-A).
That is why one invoice often carries both rates. The generator handles it line by line: set each line to 10% or 20%, and the totals box shows the base and the VAT for each rate separately, as article 145-III-6° asks the VAT to appear distinctly.
Trip details worth printing
The tax code asks for the nature, quantity and price of the service (article 145-III-5°). In practice, shippers and their accountants also look for:
- the route, with loading and delivery addresses;
- the date of each trip;
- the truck's plate number and, if useful, the driver;
- the weight or number of pallets carried;
- the number of the lettre de voiture (consignment note) or delivery note signed on arrival.
Put the route and plate in the line description and the rest in the notes. For a business client, add its ICE (article 145-III-4°).
Worked example: two trips Nador to Casablanca
A wholesaler in Nador sends two 12-tonne loads to Casablanca at 4,500 MAD a trip. Before departure your crew spends 3 hours loading at 150 MAD an hour, and the goods wait 5 days in your warehouse at 100 MAD a day. The trips are at 10%: base 9,000.00 MAD, VAT 900.00 MAD. Handling and storage are at 20%: base 950.00 MAD, VAT 190.00 MAD. The invoice totals 9,950.00 MAD before tax, 1,090.00 MAD of VAT, and 11,040.00 MAD to pay.
| Description | Qty | Unit | Unit price excl. VAT | VAT | Total excl. VAT |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Road freight Nador to Casablanca, 12 t, truck 45-678-A-6 | 2 | trip | 4,500.00 MAD | 10% | 9,000.00 MAD |
| Handling (loading and unloading) | 3 | hour | 150.00 MAD | 20% | 450.00 MAD |
| Warehouse storage before departure | 5 | day | 100.00 MAD | 20% | 500.00 MAD |
| Total excl. VAT | 9,950.00 MAD | ||||
| VAT 20% | 190.00 MAD | ||||
| VAT 10% | 900.00 MAD | ||||
| Total incl. VAT | 11,040.00 MAD | ||||
Common mistakes
- Keeping last year's rate in an old template: road freight is 10% from 1 January 2026, not 12% or 14%.
- Putting the whole invoice at 10%, handling and storage included: those are services at 20%.
- Billing a transport that is neither road nor urban at 10%: under article 247-XXXXI-F it is 20% in 2026.
- Writing only "transport, 2 trips": without route, dates and plate, the invoice is hard to match with a delivery.
Carrying export goods to the port? The shipper's own invoice is on the import-export page, and the customs side on the customs broker page. Paying drivers? The salary calculator gives the net pay.
Questions
What is the VAT rate on road freight in Morocco in 2026?
10%, under article 99-B-1° and the steps of article 247-XXXXI-G (13% in 2024, 12% in 2025, 10% from 1 January 2026).
Are handling and storage also at 10%?
No. They are separate services at the normal rate of 20%. Put them on their own lines.
Can I make a transport quote with this tool?
Yes. Switch the document to "Quote", set a validity date and send the PDF; turn it into an invoice after the trip.
